2023-10-12 10:17:21 +0200 <thyriaen> Hola, my friends and frenzies -- I have a problem with zoom: when i switch a workspace zoom get's "minimized" and changes to this really annoying -- also in ubuntu: https://community.zoom.com/t5/Meetings/The-app-window-gets-minimized-when-switching-workspaces-in/… is there a way to not tell the application that i changed the workspace ? :p
2023-10-12 10:17:50 +0200 <thyriaen> this annoying minimized version is visable on all workspaces and the main window is gone

2023-10-12 16:46:15 +0200 <thyriaen> anyone has any idea ?
2023-10-12 16:47:07 +0200 <geekosaur> the only way to do that is to doIgnore it, which probably does too much (you can't focus it any more, for one)
2023-10-12 16:48:20 +0200 <geekosaur> well, there's also copyToAll (XMonad.Actions.CopyWindow) depending on exactly what you want
2023-10-12 16:52:23 +0200 <geekosaur> Solid, the point of that was actually thinking forward to the next step…
2023-10-12 16:57:26 +0200 <thyriaen> geekosaur, but it would be nice to not have the small minimzed version at all
2023-10-12 16:57:34 +0200 <thyriaen> to always have zoom stay in the main version
2023-10-12 16:57:45 +0200 <thyriaen> so i can switch workspaces and then back again without zoom being gone
2023-10-12 16:58:04 +0200 <thyriaen> is there maybe an open source zoom client ?
2023-10-12 16:58:50 +0200 <geekosaur> not that I'm aware of
2023-10-12 16:59:24 +0200 <geekosaur> copyToAll should prevent the window "knowing about" workspace switches (i.e. main window being withdrawn)
2023-10-12 16:59:35 +0200 <thyriaen> oh
2023-10-12 16:59:38 +0200 <geekosaur> anything else is up to the app and there probably isn't much to be done about it
2023-10-12 16:59:43 +0200 <thyriaen> and is it then also visable to all workspaces ?
2023-10-12 17:01:59 +0200 <geekosaur> yes, that's the point of copyToAll
2023-10-12 17:03:05 +0200 <thyriaen> but its not what i want xD
2023-10-12 17:03:41 +0200 <geekosaur> then you need to get the app changed
2023-10-12 17:03:56 +0200 <geekosaur> the window manager can only do so much
2023-10-12 17:10:31 +0200 <thyriaen> geekosaur, can scratchpads help somehow ?
2023-10-12 17:10:58 +0200 <thyriaen> that the window is in this hidden workspace but still running when not visable ?
2023-10-12 17:12:31 +0200 <geekosaur> No
2023-10-12 17:14:22 +0200 <geekosaur> In fact I would expect it to play very badly with scratchpads
2023-10-12 17:20:22 +0200 <thyriaen> ok
2023-10-12 17:20:38 +0200 <thyriaen> i just hate zoom so much because it doesn't respect just being a window
2023-10-12 17:20:42 +0200 <thyriaen> it wants to control all

I'm having to use Kali in a VM and I've not used anything but Xmonad in over 14 years almost, and having to use whatever is in there is horrible. Xfce I think. ☹️
2023-10-12 22:10:34 +0200 <haskellbridge> <πŸ„β€‹ HB|A+,Net+,Sec+,CySA+,ECES,ITILv4,SSCP,MCP,MCSE|🌿> Now I'm going to have to figure out how to redo my Kali VM with Xmonad. I could build it from source... or I could use distro packages. Since it's just a VM, I don't really need it to do advanced stuff. I just need everything to be fullscreen by default, no titlebars (as Xmonad doesn't display them), and a taskbar to easily switch
