2023-03-01 19:08:46 +0100 <geekosaur> sensory overload, sensory hypersensitivity (which is not the same thing)
2023-03-01 19:09:08 +0100 <geekosaur> but both can lead to my brain shutting down
2023-03-01 19:10:41 +0100 <geekosaur> (sensory overload is too much stuff going on for me to handle, sensory hypersensitivity is my brain getting "stuck" in low-{light,sound, etc.} mode)

2023-03-01 22:30:27 +0100 <HB[m]> Studies report a significant improvement in symptoms associated with autism when what I'm on was administered as compared to a placebo.
2023-03-01 22:32:05 +0100 <HB[m]> Within eight weeks of treatment, 69% of the group showed a decrease in irritability, compared to 12% of the placebo group. Two-thirds of the children who had a positive response continued to show improvement six months later.

2023-03-01 22:44:12 +0100 <geekosaur> mostly my irritability comes from when I'm riding the edge of a meltdown due to sensory overload or hypersensitivity, so they're treating that instead of the irritability directly. 7 horse pills every night 🙂
2023-03-01 22:44:29 +0100 <geekosaur> anjd it's still not enough 😞
2023-03-01 23:13:49 +0100 <liskin> Uh, is this some new stuff? Last time I checked everyone on the internet said there are no meds for autism
2023-03-01 23:16:51 +0100 <geekosaur> there are still no meds for autism as such, but there are amelioratives for some of the symptoms
2023-03-01 23:17:43 +0100 <geekosaur> no meds will make you more social, for example, but you can do something about irritability and for some of the causes of meltdowns
