2022-10-09 17:05:05 +0200 <thyriaen> Howdy friends - I have a strange behavior - if i run a 2 tabbed windows and a floating one on top: the moment i open the floating one the current tabbed window, whichever is selected gets "remembered" - when I now switch the tabbed window to something else and i give the floating window focus, the tabbed window in the background changes focus to whatever window was "remembered"
2022-10-09 17:05:55 +0200 <geekosaur> yes, that's typical for floats
2022-10-09 17:06:08 +0200 <thyriaen> can i prevent this from happening somehow ?

2022-10-09 17:10:33 +0200 <[Leary]> Well, the description is a bit difficult to parse. Sounds like it could be the related but distinct `focusTracking` issue.

2022-10-09 17:12:23 +0200 <thyriaen> [Leary], what issue are you referring too ? how can i explain my issue better?
2022-10-09 17:12:57 +0200 <[Leary]> It's where layouts that don't have focus don't know what window to present. Wrapping the layout or sublayout in `focusTracking` is a way to tell it to keep presenting the window/s like when it last had focus.
2022-10-09 17:14:26 +0200 <thyriaen> [Leary], seems like it would fix my issue

2022-10-09 19:05:26 +0200 <geekosaur> although I don't recall if they'd opened the public beta by that point
2022-10-09 19:07:17 +0200 <geekosaur> not sure how I ended up doing two private betas for social networking sites when I'm autistic; I was also in on the final private beta for what became AOL (but then was AppleLink Personal Edition)
2022-10-09 19:40:10 +0200 <liskin> geekosaur: when were you diagnosed?
2022-10-09 19:40:47 +0200 <liskin> I don't have my diagnosis yet but I'm becoming more and more certain that an awful lot of things could be explained by one
2022-10-09 19:41:18 +0200 <liskin> and many of those symptoms had viable workarounds when I was a kid or a uni student
2022-10-09 19:41:53 +0200 <liskin> and those that didn't have workarounds were tolerated by my peers because I was high functioning and smart/valuable/useful enough
2022-10-09 19:42:09 +0200 <geekosaur> sounds familiar. I realized I was autistic when the Asperger paper came to light in the mid 90s and I recognized myself in it
2022-10-09 19:42:22 +0200 <geekosaur> but I was only formally diagnosed 2 years ago
2022-10-09 19:42:32 +0200 <liskin> now without that network of people, in a different culture and having to spend energy on all the adulting stuff, it's a different story
2022-10-09 19:43:01 +0200 <geekosaur> it also gets harder as you get older, I've found
2022-10-09 19:43:17 +0200 <geekosaur> like I have less energy to spend on things other people take for granted
2022-10-09 19:43:33 +0200 <geekosaur> (look up "spoon theory" sometime)
2022-10-09 19:43:42 +0200 <liskin> anyway, my point was meant to be that being part of a social networking private beta isn't that weird despite being autistic
2022-10-09 19:44:06 +0200 <liskin> demography of early social networks was wildly different than these days
2022-10-09 19:48:47 +0200 <liskin> spoon theory looks like a concept that I've been intuitively aware of for a while
2022-10-09 19:50:02 +0200 <liskin> I've actually been trying to prioritise using money to make someone else handle some of those daily tasks, but it looks like it's not as easy as I thought
2022-10-09 19:50:52 +0200 <liskin> there's still more stuff that I need to do on a daily basis than I had to when I was a uni student and had parents
2022-10-09 19:51:20 +0200 <liskin> yet the amount of money it costs me is absurd
2022-10-09 19:52:41 +0200 <geekosaur> yep ๐Ÿ˜ž
