2022-06-13 15:48:41 +0200 <spaceseller> volume in xmobar template became a problem when i replace pulseaudio with pipewire. Just to know if someone would have the same problem.
2022-06-13 15:50:40 +0200 <geekosaur> hm. it should be querying ALSA directly; volume is its problem, pipewire and pulseaudio are about audio routing and multiplexing audio streams onto the same output(s)
2022-06-13 15:52:01 +0200 <spaceseller> I put it: Run Volume "default" "Master" [] 10
2022-06-13 15:52:07 +0200 <spaceseller> in my xmobarrc
2022-06-13 15:52:47 +0200 <spaceseller> but never mind, the volume is not the so neccessary to me.
2022-06-13 15:53:20 +0200 <spaceseller> I spent too much time to find the issue of the blink once and dissapear xmobar
2022-06-13 15:55:04 +0200 <spaceseller> without volume it works find and it is visible all the time.
2022-06-13 15:55:45 +0200 <spaceseller> btw, xmobar irc channel has only few members, at least on Libera
2022-06-13 15:56:47 +0200 <spaceseller> it is wierd when it comes with xmonad hand by hand, so to speak
2022-06-13 15:57:37 +0200 <geekosaur> it's not really related
2022-06-13 15:58:23 +0200 <geekosaur> and various people use other bars (dzen2, polybar, taffybar, xmonad-log-applet in desktop manager panels, etc.)
2022-06-13 16:00:20 +0200 <alternateved> I have massive issues with volume plugin in xmobar.
2022-06-13 16:01:13 +0200 <alternateved> With pipewire and nix. In the end I decided to use simple bash script that would print me the value of volume/capture volume and if those were muted
2022-06-13 16:03:10 +0200 <alternateved> I've never had much luck with xmobar and pipewire

2022-06-13 17:42:36 +0200 <geekosaur> there's also doing it from scratch, stash the workspace name of the linked workspace in XS and provide a keybind to switch to that workspace (swapping it in XS with the current one so that keybind is a toggle)

2022-06-13 18:02:29 +0200 <[Leary]> slack1256: I have something like that in my keybinds, but I don't bother with XS or any contrib modules. It's pretty easy if the links are static; e.g. `gets (W.currentTag . windowset) >>= windows . W.view . f` for `f` of your choice.

2022-06-13 18:47:43 +0200 <liskin> I've been thinking about the Arch issues we get so so often. We do recommend using distro packages on our website. Perhaps we can't blame the people who heed that advice then

2022-06-13 18:53:17 +0200 <geekosaur> that cuts both ways: we have distro packages because people ask about them vs. installing from hackage or git. indeed we've had several people in here who claim to only trust distro packages
2022-06-13 18:53:40 +0200 <geekosaur> of course distributions may be solving that problem for us by not keeping up to date
