2021-06-17 14:55:51 +0000 <admal> hi o/, i'm using xmonad on slackware. I can't get Teamviewer to work. I have search a lot on the internet and it seems to be related to something about the DE, or the sessions manager. I start slackware on runlevel 3, loggin with my user, and the run xinit (which runs xmonad).
2021-06-17 14:57:07 +0000 <admal> if i run the teamviewer as root, i get an ID. if i'm not root, i don't get an ID. either way, beeing any user, teamviewer can't connect to the remote machine. it hangs in 'connecting' or something like that
2021-06-17 14:59:07 +0000 <Solid> I remember having this issue before
2021-06-17 14:59:20 +0000 <Solid> I think it's related to having a display manager or not
2021-06-17 14:59:37 +0000 <Solid> for some reason, teamviewer doesn't work if you start things via startx :^)

2021-06-17 21:07:25 +0000 <jg> do i need to add the trayerAboveXmobarEventHook :: to my file
2021-06-17 21:08:02 +0000 <jg> or just throw it in my main
2021-06-17 21:09:49 +0000 <geekosaur> I don't understand the question, quite.
2021-06-17 21:10:33 +0000 <geekosaur> you should be running the git version of xmonad and xmonad-contrib, import XMonad.Util.Hacks, and add trayerAboveXmobarEventHook to your handleEventHook
2021-06-17 21:11:24 +0000 <jg> I guess i am having trouble figuring out where to put the trayerAboveXmobarEventHook "hack" https://pastebin.com/aAcc8QzG
2021-06-17 21:12:37 +0000 <jg> oh i think i got it, just make a handle event hook in myConfig
2021-06-17 21:12:52 +0000 <geekosaur> yes
2021-06-17 21:13:52 +0000 <jg> beautiful, I way overlook the amount of work yall have put in to make this easy
2021-06-17 21:13:56 +0000 <jg> thank you
2021-06-17 21:17:24 +0000 <electr0n> geekosaur: thank you for your help, worked beautifully.

2021-06-17 22:44:08 +0000 <jg> any advice for making steam chat and various pop ups float instead of tile?
2021-06-17 22:44:59 +0000 <geekosaur> generally I just match specific windows in the manageHook; that's what it's for
2021-06-17 22:45:44 +0000 <geekosaur> for dialogs that mark themselves as such there's the XMonad.Hooks.ManageHelpers.isDialog manageHook
2021-06-17 22:46:00 +0000 <jg> as in the same name that is occupied for example the steam friends list would just be friends list?
2021-06-17 22:46:50 +0000 <geekosaur> use xprop to determine the correct resource name and possibly WM_WINDOW_ROLE, rather than trying to match on window title; titles change

2021-06-17 23:38:41 +0000 <geekosaur> hrm
2021-06-17 23:38:50 +0000geekosaurwonders if liftX is even usable these days
2021-06-17 23:39:25 +0000 <jg> ooh whats that
2021-06-17 23:39:35 +0000 <geekosaur> I have ancient commented-out code I tried to uncomment and it no longer compiles. and as best I can tell, it's impossible to use liftX in a manageHook any more because the types won't line up
2021-06-17 23:40:00 +0000 <geekosaur> you'd have a Query () and need a Query (Endo WindowSet)
2021-06-17 23:40:49 +0000 <geekosaur> this used to work because of how <+> and/or idHook were defined, but generalizing them lost that I think
2021-06-17 23:42:37 +0000 <liskin> lots of managehook primitives are defined in terms of liftX, so liftX surely is usable in that context, somehow

2021-06-17 23:49:05 +0000 <geekosaur> wow, that's ugly. I got the code working but I had to reimplement doF to do it
2021-06-17 23:50:11 +0000 <geekosaur> boing snd = liftX (spawn ("paplay " ++ sounds ++ "/" ++ snd ++ ".oga") >>
2021-06-17 23:50:11 +0000 <geekosaur> (return . Endo) id)
2021-06-17 23:52:16 +0000 <liskin> you can just do liftX (…) >> mempty
2021-06-17 23:52:29 +0000 <geekosaur> nope
2021-06-17 23:52:41 +0000 <geekosaur> hm, maybe
2021-06-17 23:52:50 +0000 <geekosaur> I kept getting type errors
2021-06-17 23:53:02 +0000 <henninb> does spacingRaw and Border settings differ per Linux distro? I am seeing different behavior between gentoo and arch
2021-06-17 23:53:25 +0000 <geekosaur> no, they should default the same everywhere
2021-06-17 23:53:34 +0000 <henninb> i am using the dzen bar
2021-06-17 23:54:11 +0000 <henninb> thanks geekosaur
2021-06-17 23:54:11 +0000 <liskin> henninb: possibly a different version of xmonad with different sets of bugs?
2021-06-17 23:54:32 +0000 <henninb> i am using stack to ensure i have the same version of ghc.
2021-06-17 23:56:04 +0000 <henninb> liskin I am pretty sure I am on on 0.15, but I will verify as that is a possiblity
2021-06-17 23:56:56 +0000 <jg> henninb if you built with stack and git youre likely on .1699, however if you previously built 0.15 it will read as that
