2023-09-18 09:00:28 +0000 <liskin> Solid: last time I checked even the GUI ones didn't manage to keep up with Matrix features
2023-09-18 09:00:44 +0000 <liskin> features like spaces
2023-09-18 09:02:08 +0000 <liskin> perhaps worth another look, but then, there really is little motivation to do this. I'm just annoyed that when I open Matrix once in a few weeks it's ugly as shit
2023-09-18 09:02:31 +0000 <liskin> I want to see what, if any, new messages are there, not have to worry about someone choosing a font that renders poorly :-(

2023-09-18 11:59:29 +0000 <Guest37> hey everyone... really struggling here with the xmonad install... Im on Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS; followed the docs on https://xmonad.org/INSTALL.html using the git clone > caball install route. Running xmonad --recompile is succesful but running xmonad from an xsession does a flicker to a black screen and returns me to me to the default ubuntu gnome
2023-09-18 11:59:30 +0000 <Guest37> desktop.

2023-09-18 16:10:06 +0000 <Solid> liskin: I see :/
2023-09-18 16:10:56 +0000 <liskin> Maybe I should just get a client on my phone
2023-09-18 16:11:34 +0000 <liskin> That one has big enough dpi that it really takes a complete fuckwit to mess up the font rendering
2023-09-18 16:11:53 +0000 <liskin> (so yeah as you'd expect Twitter managed to do just that a while ago)
2023-09-18 16:12:59 +0000 <liskin> But then a Matrix client wouldn't use Android/Google's notification apis and would just open a TCP connection and waste battery. There's a bunch of issue reports about this in their repo.
2023-09-18 16:13:18 +0000 <liskin> It's just a complete cluster fuck this Matrix thing :-D

2023-09-18 16:44:29 +0000 <liskin> I don't even know why I worry about this. The bridge works. Kudos to geekosaur (I presume).
2023-09-18 16:44:44 +0000 <geekosaur> yes
2023-09-18 16:45:22 +0000 <geekosaur> it's got some glitches, there seems for example to be no way to stop it from duplicating messages in the case of matrix edits
2023-09-18 16:45:52 +0000 <geekosaur> I filed a feature request upstream about that one, since there is support for suppressing edits in some non-IRC backends
2023-09-18 16:46:04 +0000 <geekosaur> but my attempts to duplicate the code failed
2023-09-18 16:46:28 +0000 <geekosaur> (aside: I officially dislike golang)
2023-09-18 16:52:26 +0000 <geekosaur> as to matrix, I mostly use nheko and briefly pop into element when I need to do something not supported
2023-09-18 16:52:29 +0000 <geekosaur> which is rare
2023-09-18 16:52:46 +0000 <geekosaur> nheko does support spaces, at least to some extent
2023-09-18 16:53:05 +0000 <geekosaur> I haven't looked at alternative clients for android yet
