2021-10-11 00:44:05 +0000 <jakefromstatefar> <geekosaur> "a lot of scripting, I think" <- The script itself was fairly straightforward, actually. :)
2021-10-11 00:44:31 +0000 <jakefromstatefar> The part that took the most effort was writing the layoutHook.
2021-10-11 00:45:00 +0000 <jakefromstatefar> There's still a few that I missed. Some of them don't really work for screenshots, or they're utility functions used in other layouts.
2021-10-11 00:45:12 +0000 <jakefromstatefar> And, some require manual intervention to properly display.
2021-10-11 00:45:20 +0000 <jakefromstatefar> So, I'll get to those.

2021-10-11 13:46:19 +0000 <jakefromstatefar> Another solution would be to add `pipewire-alsa`, aka alsa support for pipewire.

2021-10-11 16:20:46 +0000 <jakefromstatefar> Is this the best way to do this?
2021-10-11 16:24:12 +0000 <geekosaur> I think it actually appends "0", not duplicates. not that you'd notice. also there's a longer form #f000b0008000, and a few other varieties. but I don't know if we bind X11's color parser
2021-10-11 16:26:17 +0000 <geekosaur> we do: https://github.com/xmonad/X11/blob/master/Graphics/X11/Xlib/Color.hs#L90-L96
2021-10-11 16:26:56 +0000 <geekosaur> so you can support all the # forms, rgbi/(triple), etc.
2021-10-11 16:30:07 +0000 <geekosaur> hm, but then presumably you'd need to "unparse" it since we use strings
2021-10-11 16:35:48 +0000 <geekosaur> yeh, in fact I'm not sure you want to be parsing colors at all because I think everything relevant already uses lookupColor which handles hex colors, named colors, rgb[i] triples, etc.
2021-10-11 17:03:16 +0000werneta(~werneta@70-142-214-115.lightspeed.irvnca.sbcglobal.net)
2021-10-11 17:20:38 +0000 <jakefromstatefar> The thing is, it doesn't support short format hex strings.
2021-10-11 17:20:56 +0000 <jakefromstatefar> e.g `#abc` is not seen as `#aabbcc`, but with my `hex6`, it is.
2021-10-11 17:21:11 +0000 <geekosaur> are you talking about xmonad or xmobar or something else?

2021-10-11 17:21:43 +0000 <abhixec> cjb I am using pipewire
2021-10-11 17:21:43 +0000 <geekosaur> hrm. file an issue, it should really be using lookupColor or its siblings
2021-10-11 17:22:23 +0000 <geekosaur> which should support #rgb, #rrggbb, #rrrrggggbbbb, rgbi/float,float,float, etc.
2021-10-11 17:27:38 +0000 <jakefromstatefar> Oh, looks like xmonad does it just fine, I was mistaken. After thinking about it, now I remember: trayer doesn't support hex3.
2021-10-11 17:27:52 +0000 <jakefromstatefar> So, I made that function so trayer didn't spazz out.

2021-10-11 20:54:55 +0000 <jakefromstatefar> Thoughts?
2021-10-11 20:55:04 +0000 <jakefromstatefar> Not sure if I like the slight red.

2021-10-11 21:55:13 +0000 <cjb> jakefromstatefar: I am using pipewire-alsa, the version of pipewire I have is 0.3.36, and xmobar crashes on login if I use the 'Alsa Mixer Element' i.e. the one that doesn't do polling.
2021-10-11 21:56:16 +0000 <cjb> I ran into another bug with pipewire-alsa, it reports 0% to 50% volume as 0% to 4%, making it very hard to fine tune the volume if you do jumps by 2%, might be my hardware though

2021-10-11 22:16:06 +0000 <jakefromstatefar> Yeah, looks specific to something in your setup. It works fine for me.
2021-10-11 22:16:11 +0000 <jakefromstatefar> looks like*
2021-10-11 22:20:27 +0000 <davve> jakefromstatefar: reminds me a lot of haskell logo
2021-10-11 22:27:59 +0000 <jakefromstatefar> Indeed.
2021-10-11 22:31:12 +0000 <geekosaur> yeh, I actually didn't like that part because it screams haskell to me, not xmonad
2021-10-11 22:31:45 +0000 <geekosaur> at least the current one has an X11 logo as part of it

2021-10-11 22:37:15 +0000 <jakefromstatefar> What, then of this?

2021-10-11 22:37:52 +0000 <jakefromstatefar> Less haskell, more X
2021-10-11 22:38:05 +0000 <geekosaur> looks like a bit of a mismash to me. Sorry
2021-10-11 22:38:32 +0000 <geekosaur> graphic designers make $$$$ for a reason: coming up with clean recognizeable designs is *hard*
2021-10-11 22:38:41 +0000geekosaurhas been there
2021-10-11 22:42:08 +0000 <jakefromstatefar> Hm, idk, looks clean to me, but alas, your opinion differs, and you've more say. 🤷
2021-10-11 22:42:39 +0000 <geekosaur> "recognizeable" was the problem there. Like I said, mishmash
2021-10-11 22:43:04 +0000 <geekosaur> the X was sort-of there, the >>= kinda got split up and lost
2021-10-11 22:44:52 +0000tremon_(~tremon@217-63-61-89.cable.dynamic.v4.ziggo.nl) (Quit: getting boxed in)
2021-10-11 22:44:55 +0000 <geekosaur> tbh I have similar problems with the current haskell logo: too clever, and the lambda kinda gets swallowed up by the >>=
2021-10-11 22:46:44 +0000 <jakefromstatefar> Hm. IDK, I thought it nice, because it was really clever. Most people using Haskell &/or XMonad are going to be somewhat intellectual. If it strikes them as clever (at least, this' how my brain functions) then they're more likely to remember it.
2021-10-11 22:46:48 +0000 <geekosaur> sadly, this doesn't mean I have a good idea of how to design a better one
2021-10-11 23:14:03 +0000 <davve> cant it be a cute animal mascot like tux?
2021-10-11 23:15:08 +0000 <geekosaur> have to find one ORA hasn't trademarked :/
2021-10-11 23:19:15 +0000 <geekosaur> (iirc perl went through that and ended up picking a different mascot because they couldn't simply use the camel)
2021-10-11 23:22:04 +0000 <geekosaur> jakefromstatefar, to be honest your second try makes me think of the old Commodore logo
