I found this https://hackage.haskell.org/package/xmonad-contrib-0.16/docs/XMonad-Actions-SpawnOn.html but the `spawnAndDo doFloat` doesn't seem to be working.. any idea why or what I should change?

2021-04-25 06:49:16 +0200 <heck-to-the-gnom> ?tell heatwave `man kitty` that's your solution, figure out how kitty passes a title onward, if it's in your loghook, then the title needs to be set immediately, and therefore `-title` or whatever it is on kitty, will fix this.

2021-04-25 09:18:12 +0200 <carloratm> Hi all, I am coming from almost 10 years of windowmaker and I'd like to give it a try with an automatic tiling wm. I have a few preliminary questions before even trying...

2021-04-25 09:23:43 +0200 <carloratm> nice. And what about fullscreen sdl games?
2021-04-25 09:25:45 +0200 <heatwave> havent tried any, but all you need is 'WM_CLASS' or 'WM_NAME' of any window, and you can set a rule for it. 'xprop' will be your best tool for getting these names
2021-04-25 09:27:10 +0200 <carloratm> so IIUC I could say "please always set the win matching this <WM_NAME> fullscreen?"
2021-04-25 09:33:07 +0200 <Solid> yes
2021-04-25 09:33:42 +0200 <Solid> Fullscreening some applications may require EWMH, which xmonad does not support ootb (there is a module for it though and it's very easy to add)
2021-04-25 09:34:31 +0200 <carloratm> ok, will give it a try then, thank you

2021-04-25 12:22:47 +0200 <tubep> hi guys. i think i am too stupid. i've searched and googled and i can't find the command to send window to next or other screen
2021-04-25 12:23:00 +0200 <tubep> i just want to bind mod+shift+comma to do that
2021-04-25 12:23:26 +0200 <tubep> is there a simple list of every action on xmonad somewhere
2021-04-25 12:23:33 +0200 <tubep> couldn't find that either, probably my own fault though
2021-04-25 12:24:03 +0200 <mc47[m]> There isn't, mainly because xmomad-contrib is huge
2021-04-25 12:24:39 +0200 <mc47[m]> So you basically want an action that sends the window to the inactive screen?
2021-04-25 12:24:40 +0200 <tubep> okay, i just installed xmonad yesterday and got it running, there are a few default binds i want to replace though
2021-04-25 12:24:44 +0200 <tubep> yes
2021-04-25 12:25:56 +0200 <mc47[m]> Well you could just send it to a specific screen
2021-04-25 12:26:18 +0200 <mc47[m]> Forgot what were the default keybindings though and I don't have a pc right now
2021-04-25 12:26:25 +0200 <tubep> that would do it too
2021-04-25 12:26:32 +0200 <tubep> like comma to send it to screen 0 and perioid to screen 1
2021-04-25 12:26:54 +0200 <tubep> or is it period ? perioid might have something to do with women ?
2021-04-25 12:26:56 +0200 <mc47[m]> For keybindings, checkout EZConfig
2021-04-25 12:27:01 +0200 <tubep> i'm not native english speaker
2021-04-25 12:27:08 +0200 <mc47[m]> Both are period
2021-04-25 12:27:13 +0200 <tubep> okay :D
2021-04-25 12:27:45 +0200 <mc47[m]> (AFAIK at least, English isn't my first language either)
2021-04-25 12:31:12 +0200 <tubep> i've got a working config with other binds okay, just can't find the one to send windows to other monitor

2021-04-25 15:51:18 +0200 <geekosaur> arch's haskell packaging has problems, though

2021-04-25 16:30:53 +0200 <Solid> Liskni_si: I think Arch's Haskell packaging is fundamentally broken
2021-04-25 16:31:21 +0200 <Solid> which is why I recommend Arch users to look into stack/cabal in the tutorial
2021-04-25 16:31:31 +0200 <carloratm> getting this error from stack: https://dpaste.com/E4FNGUYUW
2021-04-25 16:31:37 +0200 <Liskni_si> Solid: I never said it wasn't
2021-04-25 16:32:00 +0200 <carloratm> may I try the versions suggested by the error?
2021-04-25 16:32:28 +0200 <Solid> carloratm: the new tutorial comes with a guide for stack: https://github.com/xmonad/xmonad/blob/7d43128753f3a9a8128346034997e4c0b456058d/INSTALL.md
2021-04-25 16:33:00 +0200 <carloratm> I am following that
2021-04-25 16:33:52 +0200 <carloratm> the `stack install` step presents me the error and no executable is generated in ~/.local/bin
2021-04-25 16:36:51 +0200 <Solid> huh curious
2021-04-25 16:37:29 +0200 <carloratm> should I try downgrading ghc to the version suggested?
2021-04-25 16:38:49 +0200 <tubep> Solid: thanks, i'll try to get that working
2021-04-25 16:39:00 +0200 <geekosaur> I would, 9.0.1 is not widely supported as yet
2021-04-25 16:39:21 +0200 <geekosaur> (and yet they're pushing 9.2 out the door when nobody's adopted 9.0 yet…)
2021-04-25 16:39:37 +0200 <tubep> Solid: my keys are bind differently but i'll try to figure it out
2021-04-25 16:39:55 +0200 <tubep> atleast that won't work copied directly to mykeys
2021-04-25 16:43:57 +0200 <Liskni_si> carloratm: what you're getting looks like a locale problem
2021-04-25 16:44:26 +0200 <Liskni_si> we've seen that a couple times, arch users tend to not have libc locale set up properly
2021-04-25 16:44:44 +0200 <Liskni_si> (every other distro does it on its own, but arch has to be "special")
2021-04-25 16:45:12 +0200 <Liskni_si> https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/locale or something.

2021-04-25 18:12:06 +0200 <geekosaur> huh. didn't realize the old accessors e.g. getXMonadDir had been deprecated. there's something to be said for hiding the implementation; consider that not doing so is why it's more or less impossile to port xmonad even to xcb much less wayland
2021-04-25 18:17:43 +0200 <Solid> I suppose we could not export that field in XConf and undeprecate those functions but I'm not sure that'd gain us much

2021-04-25 19:02:51 +0200 <kajzer> I can't have Firefox to go fullscreen, is there any fix for that ? It's just Firefox with that problem btw
2021-04-25 19:17:29 +0200cfricke(~cfricke@unaffiliated/cfricke) (Ping timeout: 245 seconds)
2021-04-25 19:45:43 +0200 <heck-to-the-gnom> By fullscreen you mean F11 while on the window, right? You have to have the log hook for it to automatically go fullscreen. However, until a later release (or the git version) the WM technically doesn't broadcast it's fullscreen support, so some applications may read that and not try to.
2021-04-25 19:49:11 +0200 <kajzer> heck-to-the-gnom: that too, but mainly any kind of video playing and pressing fullscreen button on the player, like youtube etc.
2021-04-25 19:51:14 +0200 <heck-to-the-gnom> https://hackage.haskell.org/package/xmonad-contrib-0.16/docs/XMonad-Hooks-EwmhDesktops.html#v:full…
2021-04-25 19:51:32 +0200 <kajzer> yeah i have that, like I said it's just firefox
2021-04-25 19:51:44 +0200 <kajzer> doesn't apply for some reason in it
2021-04-25 19:51:50 +0200 <heck-to-the-gnom> This, in addition to the minor change in the git version (not sure where exactly that is). It should work
2021-04-25 19:51:53 +0200 <burp> I've got a fullscreen hook, I'm not sure if that actually does what you want
2021-04-25 19:51:54 +0200 <heck-to-the-gnom> Try the git version then
2021-04-25 19:52:12 +0200 <burp> , isFullscreen --> (doF W.focusDown <+> doFullFloat
2021-04-25 19:52:35 +0200 <geekosaur> I think firefox really wants the hook that advertises EWMH fullscreen support
2021-04-25 19:53:07 +0200 <heck-to-the-gnom> Yeah, and iirc liskin added that in 0.16.
2021-04-25 19:53:25 +0200 <burp> I'm on 0.15 and I have no issues with firefox fullscreen
2021-04-25 19:53:30 +0200 <kajzer> it's not a big deal, was just wondering, i googled and there were some solutions years ago but that doesn't work anymore
2021-04-25 19:54:11 +0200 <heck-to-the-gnom> <burp "I'm on 0.15 and I have no issues"> Does going fullscreen in the application actually do `fullfloat` though?
2021-04-25 19:54:46 +0200 <burp> I've never really investigated nor thought about it, since it just works :D
2021-04-25 19:54:58 +0200 <burp> that is, with my config
2021-04-25 19:55:20 +0200 <heck-to-the-gnom> I'm able to activate fullscreen, but it doesn't actually take up my full screen, I like that, as I have separate keybind to do that.
2021-04-25 19:55:34 +0200 <burp> ah, but I also have "XMonad.Hooks.EwmhDesktops.fullscreenEventHook" added
2021-04-25 19:55:35 +0200 <heck-to-the-gnom> it just hides some UI elements on the program
2021-04-25 19:55:59 +0200 <kajzer> yeah that's not a 'real' fullscreen
2021-04-25 19:56:06 +0200 <heck-to-the-gnom> That's what I added, and some applications are able to activate it, but some, like FF, won't try unless it's advertised.
2021-04-25 19:56:28 +0200 <burp> by default it doesn't hide my xmobar, but I've also got a fullscreen layout, where it's *really* fullscreen
2021-04-25 19:57:50 +0200 <kajzer> I might try git and ewmhFullscreen
2021-04-25 19:58:16 +0200 <burp> myLayout = layoutHints $ otherstuff ||| noBorders (fullscreenFull Full)
2021-04-25 19:58:51 +0200 <Solid> ewmhFullscreen should fix this yes
2021-04-25 19:59:12 +0200 <kajzer> yeah, was reading bout it
